Minors
The College of Aeronautics and Engineering offers a variety of minors under both the Aeronautics and the Applied Engineering program areas.
We welcome students majoring within or outside of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering to explore minors that compliment their chosen programs of study.
Aeronautics Minors
Aircraft Dispatch Minor
The Aircraft Dispatch minor prepares students to take the written, oral and practical exams leading to the issuance of an aircraft dispatch certificate. An aircraft dispatcher plans for weather, routing, fuel, cargo and special situations. They coordinate with air traffic control, maintenance, crew scheduling and gate agents, and issue a dispatch package to the pilot-in-command. A dispatcher monitors the flight from gate-to-gate and communicates with the crew about any information concerning the flight.
Aviation Law and Policy Minor
Students pursuing the Aviation Law and Policy minor gain a deep understanding of existing policy and case law while developing the skills necessary to influence the regulatory process, which establishes and creates new laws and regulations. This minor enhances the student learning experience from a multitude of disciplines (aeronautics, engineering, business, pre-law, etc.), and prepares students to affect change in the air transportation industry from a variety of career fields.
Aviation Management Minor
The Aviation Management minor is offered to those students whose career paths may one day be focused towards management or operations across the breadth of the aviation industry.
Aviation Weather Minor
The Aviation Weather minor is for students wishing to gain a deeper understanding of weather and its physical and operational effect on aviation operations. Students will gain knowledge of the national weather information and forecasting system, as well as radar and satellite imagery and interpretation, weather information systems, thunderstorms and severe weather and information available to a crew in flight.
Professional Pilot Minor
The Professional Pilot minor is not accepting students at this time.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems Minor
The Unmanned Aircraft Systems minor introduces students to various types of unmanned aerial systems and their increasing role in today's society. Using a systems engineering perspective, students study roles and applications of unmanned aerial systems and apply their knowledge to the development of sensors, control, communications and flight operations. Students will also become an FAA certificated drone pilot.
Engineering Minors
Computer Engineering Technology Minor
The Computer Engineering Technology minor provides the foundation for students to study the design of network systems, telecommunications systems, networking hardware and computer hardware engineering and architecture technologies. Students have the opportunity to conceptualize, develop and analyze requirements engineering specifications for practical systems.
Electronics Minor
The Electronic Technology minor gives students a basic knowledge in the use and programming of microprocessor-based circuits. It also illustrates how digital combinational and sequential circuits work, and provides students with some applications of these types of circuits. The minor complements studies in computer science, physics, instrumentation, as well as student interest in a general background on how computers work.
Innovation Minor
The Innovation minor is an interdisciplinary program that addresses the need to use innovation to solve many pressing problems in manufacturing, science, business and technology.
Safety, Quality and Lean in Manufacturing Minor
The Safety, Quality and Lean in Manufacturing minor is not accepting students at this time.
Sustainability Minor
The Sustainability minor provides students a basic knowledge of sustainability and allows them to address a specific area within sustainability. The minor consists of basic courses addressing the three main components of sustainability and an integrated series of advanced courses related to applications of this basic principle.
Technology Minor
The Technology minor is not accepting students at this time.
