Overview – Professional Programs

The graduate professional programs in the College of Aeronautics & Engineering offer practical coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree, as well as the opportunity to incorporate real-world industry scenarios into program coursework. These programs do not have nor are they expected to accommodate a thesis requirement. The two professional programs are the Master of Science in Aviation Management & Logistics, and the Master of Engineering Technology (MET).

Overview – Graduate Engineering Research Programs

The graduate research programs in the College of Aeronautics & Engineering (CAE) offer theoretical coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree, as well as the opportunity to conduct innovative research for real-world applications.

M.S. Programs in Engineering

A Master of Science (M.S.) is a graduate degree that typically requires 1-2 years of full-time study beyond the Bachelor's degree level. The MS program is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of their chosen field, as well as the ability to conduct independent research.; The M.S. programs in engineering offer both a thesis and non-thesis option.

Graduates with an M.S. degree may pursue a variety of career paths, including research and development, academia, industry, consulting, or entrepreneurship. The degree can also serve as a stepping-stone to a Ph.D. program or other advanced degree.

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering currently offers a Master in Aerospace Engineering and a Master in Mechatronics Engineering.

Ph.D. Programs in Engineering

The Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) program is an advanced degree program that is designed to prepare students for careers in research, academia, or other fields that require advanced knowledge and skills in a specific area, as well as the ability to embark on a career of research and scholarship. Ph.D. programs involve several years of study beyond the bachelor's or master's degree level, and they are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct independent research, analyze data, and make original contributions to their field of study.

The Ph.D. programs in CAE involve coursework, independent research, and the completion of a thesis or dissertation. Students work closely with a faculty advisor to develop their research projects and gain specialized knowledge in their chosen field of study. Ph.D. students are expected to publish elements of their research during matriculation as evidence of their contribution to the field. Lastly, in addition to research, all Ph.D. students are required to complete a Teaching Assistantship at least once during their matriculation.

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering currently offers a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechatronics Engineering.
