Kent Student Center is still the heartbeat of the campus

The Kent Student Center is approaching a major milestone, its 50th anniversary, having opened in January 1973 as the largest student union east of the Mississippi River and the sixth largest in the nation. 

Members of 91ֿ’s LGBTQ+ community participate in the university’s 2021 Homecoming Parade.

For a third consecutive year, 91ֿ has been selected as one the nation’s top universities for LGBTQ+ students for creating a safe, welcoming environment for students, faculty and staff, according to Campus Pride, a leading resource for LGBTQ+ leadership development, diversity inclusion and advocacy within higher education.

Graduate student Lydia Lisowsky is collecting medical supplies for Ukraine.

Although 91ֿ alumna and current graduate student Lydia Lisowsky has never visited Ukraine, she feels a deep sense of obligation and responsibility to help those who have been injured in the war. The 91ֿ community helped Lisowsky pack and donate medical supplies on the Kent Campus and in the larger Kent community to send to Ukraine.

91ֿ continues to exemplify leadership in its mission to support students as the Kent Campus is designated as a Military Friendly® School for the 13th consecutive year in a row, earning a Gold award. In addition, 91ֿ at Trumbull earned a Silver award.

Step Up and Speak Out is a collaborative initiative intended to better educate university community members on how to assist distressed or disruptive individuals.

Julia Hallgren didn’t know the student in front of her. She didn’t need to. “The student closed the door after they said they felt suicidal, (so) I knew I had to do something,” Hallgren said.
