91ֿ graduate student Ryan Schoeneman of Parma, Ohio, fell in love with guitars when he was a child. He wasn’t just obsessed with their sound, but more so their look.
“I started designing them long before I ever learned to play,” said Schoeneman with a big smile on his face. “It’s a skill I picked up in shop class in high school.”
91ֿ held its 13th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. Julian Bond, a leader of the civil rights movement, served as keynote speaker at the event.
Cover your right eye and put a blinder on the outside of your left eye – that’s how 91ֿ sophomore Katie Kimble, from Rocky River, Ohio, sees the world after nine eye surgeries.
“I’m not cool with it, but I accept it,” Kimble said. “I’m thankful for the vision I have.”

Rui Liu is an assistant professor in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. His research primarily focuses on resilient infrastructure, especially in the areas of innovative construction materials, intelligent design, inspection, rating, maintenance and repair of infrastructure for sustainable development.
91ֿ student Andrew Wyatt’s research evolved from flipping through pages of scholarly writing in Kent, Ohio, to viewing the walls of historic museums and libraries in Trieste, Italy.
A 91ֿ student a cappella singing group spent part of their holiday break traveling to Washington, D.C., to perform for President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. The Kent Clarks, an organization made up of students pursuing all types of majors who share the desire to create and perform, sang at the White House on Dec. 16, 2014.
