Earl K. Miller, Ph.D., and his wife, Marlene M. Wicherski, have pledged $2 million to fund three scholarships and a professorship in 91�ֿ�’s College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Miller is a 91�ֿ� alumnus who grew up in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

Supporters give more than $1 million

91�ֿ�’s Giving Tuesday 2017 doubled the 2016 campaign – hitting more than $1 million just before midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The single largest gift of the day was a $100,000 donation to the Fashion School Study Away Fund. From multiple student study abroad scholarships to research opportunities and poetry programs, there were more than 40 featured giving options across the 91�ֿ� system from which to choose.

Officers from 91�ֿ� Police Services have always had a “protect and serve” philosophy, and recently, they put this philosophy in action in order to help families in need.

Each year, the department holds a “Glow, Grow and Give” fundraiser throughout the month of November to raise money for a worthy cause. The staff members can donate $30, and in return, they may grow out beards (for men), dye their hair pink or blue or paint their fingernails.

91�ֿ� kicked off the season of giving early this year on Nov. 1 with the launch of its 2017 Giving Tuesday campaign. In a departure from efforts of past years, the university extended the fundraising initiative through the entire month of November, leading up to Giving Tuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, on Nov. 28. Giving Tuesday is the unofficial worldwide beginning to a season of philanthropic giving to nonprofits that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The 91�ֿ� men’s basketball team had a successful home opener, Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). The Golden Flashes defeated the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers, 90-45.

91�ֿ� junior Stephanie Newton successfully juggles a tough schedule that includes taking classes in hospitality management, while raising four children and working several campus dining services jobs.

It is no surprise that she does not have the resources to build the professional wardrobe needed to successfully interview for internships that will bring her closer to her dream of owning a restaurant.

Joanne Dowdy, Ph.D., a professor in 91�ֿ�’s School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies has finished her 14th book, which shares the journeys of successful female entrepreneurs and leaders of African descent.
