NBC Sports Group

As a Studio Operations Intern for NBC Sports Group, Digital Media Production student Austin Monte, ‘25, spent time shadowing professionals in control rooms and learning various productions. These productions range from studio shows such as US Open All Access, GOLF TODAY and GOLF CENTRAL, to live events such as USFL Championship and Tour de France. He also had opportunities to work on shows that air on Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform.

“One of the shows I had the opportunity to work on was Directing/Technical Directing the show Brother From Another, a sports talk show on Peacock,” Austin said. “I got the opportunity to learn from some of the most knowledgeable figures in the industry, use state-of-the-art equipment, and immerse myself in the highest level of productions,” he said.

Austin shared that his time at 91ֿ both inside and outside of the classroom prepared him for this opportunity. On campus, he works for Teleproductions and 91ֿ Student Media’s TV2 News.

“At my interview, my manager was specifically impressed with my demo reel of working live sports and studio shows on campus, as well as my knowledge of the industry, and that is thanks to what I have learned working at Teleproductions and TV2. These organizations have a lot of industry-standard equipment that I see at my internship, which made me very prepared,” he said.

From this experience, Austin learned that no matter how much experience you have, you will always be learning. In an evolving industry such as broadcasting, there is a lot to be learned from those you’re working with and all the new technologies.

“This internship has helped me take a deeper dive into what it’s like working on some of the biggest productions on television and has made me more prepared to kick off my career post-graduation.”
