91²Ö¿â faculty, staff and students volunteered to help incoming freshmen move into the university’s residence halls at the beginning of each school year.
This year, freshman move-in day was Thursday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Last year, the Movers and Groovers program garnered 921 volunteers. Jill Church, director of Residence Services at 91²Ö¿â, anticipated more than 900 volunteers again this year.
“The program is completely student run and organized,†Church said. “Kent Interhall Council is the group responsible for this program. Volunteers include fraternities and sororities, campus ministry groups, academic groups and university departments. Everyone here at 91²Ö¿â really loves to get involved with the freshman move-in program.â€
This year, Movers and Groovers wore ’90s-themed outfits and played music from the ’90s, while assisting new students.
The Movers and Groovers program is part of 91²Ö¿â’s Welcome Weekend, an orientation program that runs from Aug. 25-29. Welcome Weekend includes activities and events to encourage students to explore the 91²Ö¿â community and provides a smooth transition to the university environment.
