Facilities/Print Media and Photography

Print Media and Photography studios are located on the third floor of The Center for the Visual Arts. The complex consists of approximately 5,000 square feet of studio space, with facilities for lithography, silkscreen, intaglio, relief, letterpress, photo darkroom, papermaking equipment, and digital equipment. Graduate students enjoy semi-private studios adjacent to the main shop. Students can explore traditional and experimental photography in the state-of-the-art darkroom for processing black-and-white film. The KSU darkroom is one of the few remaining darkrooms in the area and the only one available on Kent campus. Additionally, graduate and undergraduate students can  develop print matrices at the school’s digital fabrication lab, the ARTech Studio.

Two lithography presses, three etching presses, two book presses, a tabletop letterpress, and four vacuum printing units for silkscreen are housed in the department. A large library of lithography stones, large rollers for intaglio, ferric and nitric etching facilities, papermaking moulds, deckles, vats, and a paper press, a case of type, 42” wide Epson SureColor printer, and several Mac computers are also available in the studios.
