91ֿ Research Review 2019: Growing Global Citizens

91ֿ hosts STARTALK Foreign Language Academy, where 20 accepted high school students in Northeast Ohio are immersed into either Russian or Chinese language and culture. 91ֿ’s Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies received federal funding for the 12th year to host this academy on campus.

The high school students accepted have an opportunity to live and study in 91ֿ’s Honors College, while also receiving high school credit and have the potential to receive up to four hours of college credit.

The STARTALK program is highly influential for students to learn more about global issues and understand them from a more diverse perspective.

“Teaching students other languages is a great way to develop world citizens,” said Brian Baehr, Ph.D., program director and professor of Russian translation.
