A true milestone in the concept of international education, the American Academy celebrated its first  in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil, this year. The American Academy is a dual-enrollment program jointly operated by 91�ֿ� and the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná. Fourteen of the students who first enrolled in the program when it launched in July 2018 were the first to graduate.

Alumna Pamela R. Anderson-Bartholet has a long history at 91�ֿ�, graduating from the university three times before working for 91�ֿ�. In August, she added a new feather to her cap when The Poetry Box published her first complete collection of poetry, “Just the Girls: A Kaleidoscope of Butterflies; A Drift of Honeybees” with the help of two other alumnae.

91�ֿ� Alumna Priya Midha, M.S. ‘20,  is making a difference in Northeast Ohio, working to track COVID-19 to stop community spread and was recently featured in Akron Life Magazine.

91�ֿ� launched its month-long celebration of philanthropy, Giving Tuesday, on Nov. 9 and highlighted a fundamental belief that “Flashes Take Care of Flashes.”

Students struggling academically or with time management skills will have an additional, powerful resource in the form of a fellow student to coach them to success. The Academic Success Center’s Peer Academic Coaching Program at 91�ֿ� is now available for all students. 

As part of 91�ֿ�’s ongoing strategy to help stop the spread of COVID-19, 91�ֿ� has partnered with the city of Kent to bring the Ohio Department of Health’s Pandemic Testing Team to campus from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 for an open testing event

At just 19 years old, 91�ֿ� sophomore Izzy Stewart has inspired hundreds of fellow students to exercise their right to vote. The public relations major has been inspired by those who have come before her here and is taking steps to create political change.

In an effort to ensure student access and success, 91�ֿ� is waiving application fees for those who apply to the university in the month of November. 

Fashion in the 90s was dominated by simple styles, but full of patterns and colors. And you can see and buy those styles mixed with contemporary flair today thanks to 91�ֿ� alumnus, Adam Forrester, who recently designed pieces for the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s” 30th-anniversary collection.

Julia Huyck, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Health Sciences at 91�ֿ�, was granted $431,000 over three years by the National Institute of Health (NIH) to delve into the unknown science concerning adolescent hearing and cognitive development.

Christian Cunningham, senior aeronautical studies major at 91�ֿ�, has been doubted. Some said he would never become a pilot. But Cunningham is already proving them wrong. Graduation is on the horizon, and he and his internship were recently featured on CNN.

In times of uncertainty and hardship, you can stand back and wait for it to pass or get involved. During the pandemic, people in the town of Kent and the 91�ֿ� community wanted to make a difference. Two 91�ֿ� students became the catalysts that sparked a 10-week project of doing good.

91�ֿ� alumna Brenna Parker grew up in a household that talked about important issues of the day, so it’s no surprise that her young career has been rooted in politics and civic engagement. As the nation votes leading up to the historic 2020 election on Nov. 3, Parker has taken on the role of Web and Facebook Strategist for Biden for President, sharing the former Vice President and Democratic nominee for President’s message with millions of voters online.

Campus Pride has released its 2020 Best of the Best LGBTQ-Friendly Colleges and Universities list, and for the first time in school history, 91�ֿ� has landed on the distinctive list as one of 40 institutions recognized over six U.S. regions.

The sixth annual Run the World 5K run/walk to sponsor 91�ֿ�’s study abroad scholarships is going virtual this year. For the first time, fans of Run the World from all over the world can participate remotely in this event designed to support student participation in international education. Participants will complete the 5K on their own time and at their own pace. Organizers invite participants to show their 91�ֿ� pride by wearing blue and gold during their run/walk and sharing their photos from all over the world with the Run the World community.

More than 21,200 people applied to be part of 91�ֿ�’s Class of 2024, and 3,819 can now consider themselves to be Golden Flashes.

Kiana Duncan, ‘18, developed a passion for traveling during her time at 91�ֿ�, always taking advantage of every opportunity she had to study abroad and get new experiences. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 2018, Duncan has been able to turn that love into her career.

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities has selected 91�ֿ� as one of four finalists for the association’s 2020 Degree Completion Award. The annual award works to identify, recognize and reward institutions that employ innovative approaches to improve degree completion while ensuring educational quality.

91�ֿ� recognizes that employees may want to vote on Election Day. As such, supervisors should provide employees with a reasonable amount of time to vote on Nov. 3.

91�ֿ� President Todd Diacon today announced the appointment of Melody Tankersley, Ph.D., to the position of senior vice president and provost, effective Nov. 1, 2020.
