Sisterhood is a strong bond. For 91²Ö¿â alumnae Brittany and Christina Watts, their sisterly love has been the cornerstone of their academic success, leading them to earn their doctoral degrees and graduate together this May.

91²Ö¿â’s commitment to diversity and inclusion has been recognized with the 2022 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. The annual award recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Amoaba Gooden, Ph.D., has accepted the position of vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at 91²Ö¿â, effective May 1, 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many disruptions and changes to people’s lives. The 91²Ö¿â men’s basketball team has been affected, too, with schedule changes, games played in nearly empty arenas and extra safety protocols in place. However, one of the things that has not changed is the team’s steadfast commitment to autism awareness.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

91²Ö¿â will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, to celebrate King’s life and legacy. Serving as this year’s keynote speaker is CNN political analyst and former South Carolina state Rep. Bakari Sellers. The virtual program is free and open to the public.

91²Ö¿â has won a Best in Class award for supplier diversity from the Greater Cleveland Partnership. This marks the third time that the university has received this award. As a multiyear winner of the Best in Class awards, 91²Ö¿â is also named to the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Equity and Inclusion Hall of Fame.

91²Ö¿â’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Plus (LGBTQ+) Center holds a safe, physically distant small group kickoff event at the start of the 2020 Fall Semester. 

91²Ö¿â’s commitment to maintaining a diverse and inclusive campus has received acknowledgement from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education, for an eighth consecutive year. INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine has selected 91²Ö¿â as a recipient of the 2020 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award.
