Senior Aerospace Engineering major Julia Taylor is the recipient of the 91²Ö¿â Leadership Center’s Student Leader of the Month.
The Student Leader of the Month program seeks to recognize students for excellence in leadership through campus and community involvement.
Yewande Moore nominated Taylor.
Moore said:
“When I think of a student who embodies this model in totality, I think of Julia. Julia is probably the most hard-working student I have come across in my tenure here at 91²Ö¿â. She is heavily involved all over campus and still maintains very strong grades in her academics. She is committed to cultivating a great student experience for our on-campus students through her work as Executive Director of KIC. Through this journey she is responsible for an organization that is committed to programming, student engagement, advocacy, and service for almost 6,000 students.â€
She continued:
“Additionally, KIC does a number of sustainability and social justice initiatives through our Eco Reps and Social Justice Advocates. Julia has done a phenomenal job in preparing her executive board for a year of success to properly execute and accomplish their goals. I am proud that in such a short time, Julia has learned this new position and has made it her own and has already positively impacted so many people and has also inspired so much change on campus. She is beyond deserving of this recognition and honor.â€
Taylor was extremely grateful for the honor.
“Being nominated for November's Student Leader of the Month came as a surprise to me but a wonderful surprise nonetheless! I've always thought that recognition is very important in leadership, such that leaders express their gratitude to their support system and are also recognized for their work, so this nomination is very special to me. One organization I'm in is the National Residence Hall Honorary which emphasizes the impact of recognition in all roles. It's well known that encouragement and praise can go a long way and I think, personally, I forget how nice it is to have my work affirmed.â€
Taylor continued:
“This semester especially has been difficult, and this truly shows how silver linings and good things continue to happen even if you fail along the way but try your best. I am forever grateful and will never forget what an honor it is to be in a position where I'm recognized as November's Student Leader of the Month! I have to give kudos to my peers, friends, family, and Executive Boards for the endless love and support; without them I would not be the leader I am today.â€
For being selected Student Leader of the Month, Taylor will receive a commemorative certificate, a 91²Ö¿â t-shirt, a $15 gift card to the 91²Ö¿â bookstore, along with being recognized on the Leadership Center website, monthly newsletter, and the @KentStateLeads Instagram page.
