The School of Communication Studies welcomes Aaron Bacue as a new faculty member. Bacue comes to 91²Ö¿â with 17 years of experience teaching communication at the university level, most recently at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Bacue joins the school as an assistant professor, specializing in interpersonal, relational and non-verbal communication. A decade ago this week, Andrew Curtis, Ph.D., geography professor in 91²Ö¿â’s College of Arts and Sciences, promised the people of New Orleans that he would continue to return and document the recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina. After the hurricane, Curtis used specialized cameras, equipped with GPS, to help direct rescue helicopters and medical crews through the flooded and impassable areas. Members of the university community as well as family members of freshman students can watch a live stream of the 91²Ö¿â Convocation on Friday, Aug. 28. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. and is held in the Memorial Athletics and Convocation Center.  This special ceremony marks the beginning of the university’s first-year students’ college careers and their entrance into higher education. The School of Communication Studies hosted Safe Space: Ally Training 101 for faculty, staff and graduate students in the College of Communication and Information. More than 30 CCI members attended the session Wednesday presented by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Student Center of 91²Ö¿â.
