The College of Communication and Information at 91ֿ announces the appointment of Katrina Chandler as the new director of 91ֿ Student Media.
Ms. Chandler will take the reins of one of the country’s largest collegiate student media operations, with an annual budget of $500,000 and more than 400 students engaged with multiple brands including a digital news website; a biweekly print newspaper; a weekday newscast; streaming audio and visual entertainment; production and film distribution; audience engagement, marketing and promotion teams; and magazines in both digital and print formats.
Chandler, who is relocating to Ohio from New Mexico said “I’m so excited to be at 91ֿ and look forward to working with such dedicated students. It’s an exciting time for 91ֿ Student Media and I’m really happy to be here for it.”
Most recently, Chandler served as Creative Director for NMCO Creative Studios in Los Cruces, New Mexico. Prior to that position she served as Student Media Advisor at New Mexico State University where she also taught courses in graphic design. Chandler earned a B.A. and M.F.A. in Studio Art from New Mexico State University.
It is an exciting time for 91ֿ Student Media. The Fall 2024 semester marks implementation of wide-ranging strategic reorganization efforts begun last year. The project brings 91ֿ Student Media’s organizational structure into alignment with best practices across the contemporary traditional and digital media landscape.
MDJ Professional in Residence Mizell Stewart III, who has served as interim director of Student Media since January 2024, said Chandler combines strong digital media skills with a focus on the student experience. “Katrina will bring a fresh approach to Student Media and I know our students are looking forward to working with her.” Stewart will continue to provide support as Katrina moves into her new office in Franklin Hall, home of 91ֿ Student Media, the School of Media and Journalism and the School of Emerging Media and Technology.
“We’re so excited that Katrina is joining us to lead 91ֿ Student Media,” said Amy Reynolds, Dean of 91ֿ’s College of Communication and Information. “She has a proven track record as an effective mentor for students, while also respecting their independence. I look forward to having her join the team. ”
Ms. Chandler’s first day at 91ֿ is Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
