Hello, my name is Samantha but I go by Sam.
I am so excited to introduce myself as a new student blogger for KSU Geauga. Here is a little bit about me:
I grew up in Akron, Ohio and I attended Walsh Jesuit High School. Ironically, even though Walsh is a college preparatory school, when I started my first semester of college I found myself completely unprepared. During my senior year of high school I was accepted into what I thought was my dream school. Here is some insight on my mental state at that time:
I was mentally checked-out of high school from the start of senior year. I was burnt out and depressed, and the only thing I cared about was my school’s performing arts program, which I was heavily involved in. Walsh pushed the narrative of starting college right after graduation. This is a narrative I did not question. Here is what happened:
I did not know what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew I wanted to live somewhere exciting and far from home… So I moved to Chicago to attend Loyola University. Chicago turned out to be my dream city, but Loyola was not my dream school. After a failed freshman year, I returned home with three credits from an Anthropology class and absolutely nothing else. I spent a year away from school, working full time until I got a better grasp on how I wanted to continue my journey as a college student. Here is what I am doing now:
I am a Psychology major at KSU Geauga. After this semester I plan to declare a minor in music (music is my truest passion in life). My path has taken twists and turns and I have learned a lot about myself, but choosing to restart my journey at KSU was one of the best decisions I have ever made. If you are reading this, here are some things I want you to know:
It does not matter what your journey looks like compared to someone else’s. Being a college student is not easy, so make sure to take it easy on yourself. I wish everyone a very happy 2021 and look forward to posting again soon. Nice to meet you!
