On Thursday, May 26, 2022, from noon â 1:00 p.m., a virtual event titled âMedia Literacy: New Approaches for a New Ageâ will be presented by Dr. Bonnie Shaker, Associate Professor of English, at 91²Ö¿â Twinsburg Academic Center.
Event description: Books. Newspapers. Magazines. Photographs. Movies. Radio. Television. Gone are the days when these were all separate media, each with venerable brands we could trust.
Because of digital convergence, we now receive all of these media in the same wayâvia powerful computers we hold in the palm of our hands. However, convergence has bred confusion about distinctions between media types. Posts on social media are now called ânews,â while newspapers are now called âfake.â
If youâre wondering how to determine quality from questionable information online, join us for a presentation on emerging best practices across academic disciplinesâfrom English, Information Science, History, Media & Journalism Studies, and moreâfor vetting digital information before you invest time reading, listening, or watching.
