Career Bio:
My research career began during my master's studies in fashion school in 2018, where I explored integrating liquid crystals into fibers to develop wearable biomedical devices, such as diabetic socks for self-diagnosis. While at 91�ֿ�, I collaborated with Dr. Krifa and the Liquid Crystal Department, working on electrospinning PLGA-liquid crystal mixtures to create functional fibers. Afterwards, I started my Ph.D. research at NC State focused on developing biomaterials to prevent post-surgical adhesions in implanted medical devices.

"The most valuable lesson from my 91�ֿ� experience and academic journey is that boundaries can always be pushed, and new paths can emerge with persistence and curiosity. I deeply appreciate the support of my 91�ֿ� professors, who encouraged me to pursue my evolving scientific passions, especially Dr. Leslie, Dr. Krifa and all other professors who have crossed path during my undergraduates' and graduates' studies."

Career Bio:
My career journey demonstrates the importance of patience and timing, as I moved from a NYC internship to freelancing before landing a trend role at JCPenney in New York just as my retail job closed. Over the past six years, JCPenney has continued to be a fertile ground for growth, teaching me that sometimes waiting is necessary for the right opportunities to unfold.

"A unique aspect of 91�ֿ� compared to other art schools is the ability for students to simultaneously study fashion and experience a typical university life full of extracurricular activities. Attending biology lectures, playing in the orchestra and biking a beautiful campus while studying fashion allowed for a comprehensive college experience."

Career Bio:
Joanna is a Merchandise Planning Analyst at Gap, after successfully completing the Rotational Management Program. As a first generation Haitian American, Joanna utilizes the confidence that she has in herself to relentlessly strive for greatness in all areas of her life and encourage those around her to do the same.

"Being the Senior Co-Producer of the Annual Fashion Show was my most valuable experience at 91�ֿ�. I was able to navigate multiple opinions, lead my peers, and understand the value of collaboration. These are skills that I use in my role today that have helped me be a better cross-functional partner."

Career Bio:
I spent half of my junior year at the NYC studio where I was able to build a strong network. I had several internships that were secured through Kent State Alumni. Right after graduation, I began my career as a Merchandise Assistant at Saks Fifth Avenue where I built a strong foundation and understanding of luxury retail.

After two years, I pivoted to Chanel to learn more about the brand side of luxury as well as explore a new and exciting category -- Fragrance & Beauty! I began on the Store Planning & Merchandising Team, driving image and CapEx strategies and cross-functional implementation. After four years, I pivoted to Marketing to manage key skincare franchises where I influence investment strategies and orchestrate key campaign initiatives in the US region.

"Do your best and challenge yourself, because you never know who is watching. As you see growth, development, and success in even small ways, you will naturally be proud of yourself and develop your confidence which is key in navigating this industry. Networking was also a valuable lesson learned from Kent as many of my internships and jobs were through a Kent connection."

Career Bio:
Since January 2023, I have been an Associate Buyer at Target in Minneapolis. This role has allowed me to begin utilizing my merchant skill set in strategy creation and implementation to the product categories I operate. Prior to Target, I was a Merchandise Analyst at Nordstrom for full-price and off-price channels. 

"91�ֿ� provided so many learning experiences during my time as a student. I don't think I have the space to list them all! The opportunity to study and work abroad in Paris and New York City for two semesters had the greatest impact by far. Both cities allowed me to expand my understanding into not only how the industry operates but the impact networking has on your career. Having numerous opportunities to learn, work, and meet so many individuals with extensive knowledge and history were priceless. I would not be where I am today without 91�ֿ�'s Fashion School program providing us the ability to travel, work, and learn."

Career Bio:
While at 91�ֿ�, Olivia served as president of the National Retail Federation Student Association, participated in the UNESCO & Women@Dior mentorship program, and joined The Z Suite network as a featured speaker and media contributor. She held various internships at Stellar Moto Brand, Lake Street Showroom, Fashion Talks, and Valentino, which helped to diversify her merchandising skillset. In 2023, she was a Top 5 Finalist for the NRF Foundation Next Generation Scholarship, and in 2024, she won the Chairman's Award from the Fashion Scholarship Fund for her hosiery-focused case study. 

"When I first started in the fashion program, I thought I may become an editor of a fashion magazine someday. As I progressed in my studies and gained more experience, I learned I am curious about product and passionate about the shopping experience. That's why I'm excited to be working in buying, because it's a great way to balance the creative and analytical sides of the business. "

Career Bio:
 After my design internship at Kohl's Corporate, I quickly found my love for children's wear. After graduation, I started as a Design Assistant for Weissman designing children's dance costumes, then Assistant Designer for Claire's Headquarters designing handbags & accessories and finally was offered a dream job as a Product Designer at American Girl Headquarters in Madison, WI designing dolls & fashions. I was invited to continue my design journey as American Girl relocated its headquarters to Mattel in Los Angeles. My American Girl designs include the Disney Princess line, 90's Twins both of which have been featured on Good Morning America and designs appearing in several skits on Saturday Night Live. I mentor fashion students at 91�ֿ� and Otis School of Design and a volunteer guest speaker for children's programs and schools. 

"My most valuable learning experiences happened right in the classroom. I was privileged to have intuitive professors my senior year who nurtured my sparkly, whimsical self. They helped me feel brave to keep embracing what made my designs unique and stand out. My confidence grew and I began to trust my voice as a designer which has opened many doors in my career. "

Career Bio:
Jaron Warmack (he/him), Sourcing Manager at Abercrombie & Fitch, leads the Sourcing department for Abercrombie and Fitch’s YPB Active Wear brand. Jaron’s work focusses in on the strategy and development of this new brand under the A&F umbrella. 

"Originally when I joined the fashion school I thought that I would be in Visual Merchandising. I loved the creativity of putting together, and styling outfits for customers. Coming out of school, I was exposed to the Product Development and Sourcing world and I fell in love instantly. It involves a lot of creative problem solving with new challenges every day. Hands down the best experience that I had within the Fashion School was my time abroad in Florence. We were exposed to some of the best luxury brands in the world and were able to immerse ourselves in the culture."
