Donate in the Memory of Professor Elizabeth Howard

Elizabeth Howard was a beloved, admired, and respected Professor of English at 91²Ö¿â for over twenty years. She earned her B.A. in English and her M.A. in English (Creative Non-fiction and Literary Theory) from 91²Ö¿â, her M.A. in Theoretical Linguistics from Ohio University, and her Ph.D. in English (Creative Non-fiction) from The University of Kansas. She began teaching at 91²Ö¿â in 2000 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2013. She was the 2009 recipient of the University Teaching Council’s Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2016 recipient of the Honors College’s Distinguished Honors Faculty Award. She served the University, the English Department, and the Honors College in many ways, volunteering her time and talent to countless committees, honors theses, presentations, and publications. She was a devoted mentor, colleague, and friend, as well as a gifted scholar, poet, and writer. Elizabeth brought joy and light to every space she occupied—her laughter was contagious. She loved 91²Ö¿â, her students, and her colleagues—her generosity was endless. She was a spirited and relentless champion of the underdog, of women, and for equality. She was passionate about the English language and possessed a seemingly limitless depth of knowledge of grammar, writing, literature, history, and numerous other subjects. She served as a valuable resource to colleagues and students alike. She shared her passion for yoga and meditation—teaching classes in both to many grateful students. All who knew Elizabeth will miss her fierce intelligence, her unwavering spirit, her uncompromising intellect, and her unbending courage. Her legacies of kindness, collaboration, excellence in teaching, and love of learning live on in her colleagues, students, and friends.
