Philosophy of Early Childhood Education

The ECE program is conceptualized and enacted to support preservice and inservice teachers to be Critical Educators/Teacher Learners. Through the lenses of social justice and international mindedness, our graduates put theory into practice in these areas:

  • Curriculum experts;
  • Culturally relevant pedagogical experts;
  • Committed professionals;
  • Democratically accountable leaders;
  • Teacher as co-decision maker;
  • and Reflective thinkers.

Graduates meet KSU domains for teacher competency (NAEYC/CAEP) and Ohio teacher performance domains (ODE), as well as the values reflected in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization’s mission statement. Through our accredited program, graduates are licensed by the State of Ohio and hold the IB Certificate for Teaching and Learning in Primary Years Program (PYP).
