Center for Public Policy and Health

The Center for Public Policy and Health (Center) is located within the College of Public Health in Lowry Hall.

We conduct timely and relevant research in the fields of mental health and substance misuse and communicate our results to stakeholders, policymakers and professionals who can utilize the findings to improve the health of the public.

This work includes programming to increase awareness about mental health and substance use, stigma reduction, to create an increase in service utilization and track substance use trends.

There are numerous initiatives that we provide within the Center. If you're interested in our student organizations, check out Active Minds @ KSU or the Student Mental Health Coalition. If you only have the time for 30-minute events that educate others on mental health, check out our U Good events. If you would like to take a mental health awareness training, keep an eye out for our A.I.D. (Awareness, Interaction, and Direction), Mental Health First AID, or VAR (Validate, Appreciate, and Refer) training dates. To take a training now, check out Kognito, or QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer), on our website. Both trainings are self-paced, offered through our Center, and are available 24/7.

If you're interested in scheduling a training for a department or group, contact Kim Laurene (klaurene@kent.edu).

The Center for Public Policy and Health conducts timely and relevant research, and creates related programming in the fields of mental health and substance misuse.
