Communication studies students Rebecca Barnes, Chris Titus and Neil Kyser have taken on the task of promoting an on-campus blood drive to benefit the organization LifeShare. Their promotional campaign is for the School of Communication Studies course Communication and Influence, taught by assistant professor Rekha Sharma.
LifeShare will be holding a blood drive on campus from noon to 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 10 in room 310 AB of the Student Center. LifeShare offers incentives to donors that include a free Chipotle gift card, an opportunity to help build the LifeShare scholarship fund for 91²Ö¿â students and the ability to save up to three lives per donation.
Scott Dotterer, coordinator of the Office of Health Promotion, said, âI can certainly appreciate the importance of donating blood, especially with the realization that there is no substitute for it.â
He added that it would be beneficial if more eligible people would consider becoming donors because blood donation has the potential to save many lives.
âIf you are not able to donate blood, please consider recruiting a friend to donate,â Dotterer said.
The communication studies students will also use the Flash mascot to promote the blood drive and assist the Office of Health Promotion with some of their social media efforts.
