91²Ö¿â at Salem held its annual nursing convocation and pinning ceremony during which 23 students received their nursing pins and recited the nursing pledge. All are receiving degrees this year through the Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) program on the Salem campus.
Dr. Mary Lou Ferranto, coordinator of the BSN program at Salem, presented the 2018 class of graduates, while nursing faculty members presented various awards and the students’ pins. Special guests included Dr. David Dees, dean of the 91²Ö¿â Salem Campus and Dr. Celeste Oprean, assistant dean.
Several students were recognized for their academic and leadership achievements. Abigail Kalaher, Delores Smith and Katlyn Willison each received the Award for Academic Performance; Benjamin Angelo and Jason Minard each received the Award for Clinical Excellence; Brandon Cooper and Alexa Tkacik received the Spirit of Nursing Awards; Alyson Zimbardi received the Community Service Award; and Alyson Zimbardi received the Nursing Leadership Award.
Retiring Assistant Professor Ruth Ann Mullen was recognized for her years of teaching in the areas of OB/GYN nursing and as an internationally-certified lactation consultant. In her honor, Abigail Kalaher received the Ruth Ann Mullen Breastfeeding Award.
