Kent Salem Hosts Horticulture Entrepreneurship Seminar
Salem, Ohio â 91²Ö¿â at Salem hosted a gathering of students and industry experts for a horticulture/entrepreneurship seminar named âWhat Makes Us Grow.â
Students from 91²Ö¿â Salem, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center and the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center listened as representatives from local âgreenâ companies discussed all aspects of the business side of the industry.
The discussions included insight into hiring practices, resume writing, seasonal trends, starting a business and the skills and education needed to succeed.
Panel participants included Emily Showalter, director of human resources at Willoway Nurseries in Avon; George Hohman, president of Turfscape Inc. in Cleveland and Akron; Seth DeHoff, owner of DeHoffâs FGL in Alliance; Chris Carlson, associate professor at Kent Salem; and Richard Lutsch, of Byler, Wolfe, Lutesch & Kampfer CPAs in Salem.
The audience also included members of 91²Ö¿â Salemâs horticulture advisory board, who offered the students additional insight into the industry, as well as the campusâs horticulture faculty members.
