Biography
Genne Laakso is a jewelry artist and educator. She recently relocated back to Ohio after living in New York City for
the past decade. She received her B.F.A. in 2004 (KSU), and her MFA in 2009 (CWU). She has worked as a bench
jeweler and has taught various studio art classes, focusing on Jewelry and Metalsmithing education. In recent years,
she developed a new trade in the state of NY for Bench jeweler (production) and developed an apprenticeship
program at a fashion jewelry company. She’s exhibited internationally and been featured in piercing and jewelry
publications. Her work seeks to push the boundaries of jewelry and explore new ways of creating rituals of wearing,
marking, and recovery.
