The 91ֿ at Tuscarawas Gamma Sigma Chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society inducted seven Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program students on April 24. Alpha Delta Nu, the honor society for associate degree nursing students, welcomed the following 91ֿ Tuscarawas ADN program students: Paige Boals, Shelby Edmondson, Tyler Golec, Darla Ivins, Hallie Seese, Brianna Tucker and Olivia Wagner.
Alpha Delta Nu recognizes the academic excellence of students in the Associate Degree Nursing program. The society encourages the pursuit of advanced degrees in the profession of nursing as well as continuing education as a life-long professional responsibility. Additionally, the society participates in the recruitment of qualified individuals into the profession of nursing.
Additionally, Alpha Delta Nu requires that each potential inductee participate in a service project. 91ֿ Tuscarawas has been a partner with the American Red Cross for the past few years.
“During their first year as nursing students, our inductees became volunteers with the American Red Cross and served as blood donor ambassadors,” said Dr. Mariann Harding, interim director of the AND program. “As ambassadors, each was the first person that the donor came in contact with during their donation experience. The students screened donors for illness, answered questions, and assisted blood drive staff.”
The students also provided instruction in hands-only CPR – the act of providing continuous chest compressions, without breaths, to adults or teens in cardiac arrest.
“Each candidate taught one class to a group of community members, their family and friends, as well as coworkers,” said Harding.
During the ceremony, each inductee was presented with an honor certificate, peach honor cord and organization pin. The honor cord and pin are to be worn at pinning and commencement ceremonies.
To qualify for membership, honorees maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all general education classes, earned a grade of A or B in each nursing class and demonstrated conduct on campus and in the clinical settings that reflected integrity and professionalism.
