Lori B. Singer-Bare, MPA
Biography
Lori B. Singer-Bare is a Lecturer of Criminology and Justice Studies and an instructor, liaison, and curriculum designer for the Peace Officer Training Academy at 91ֿ at Trumbull. Lori retired as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) in December 2022 from the United State Army. She was Military Police during her time in the Army and served in a variety of positions. She was a Patrol Officer, Traffic Collision Investigator, Special Reaction Team Entry Team Member, Drill Sergeant, Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Current Operations Noncommissioned Officer in Charge. As an Army Instructor, Lori taught new Soldiers-in-Training tactics and techniques for active shooter/threat response methods. Lori is the recipient of the Soldier’s Medal; the highest award for valor in a non-combat situation for her actions on 2 April 2014, when she confronted an active shooter at Fort Cavazos, TX. She is credited with stopping the threat and saving countless lives. Lori deployed in 2020, to South Korea with the 977th Military Company that was attached to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, KS. Lori has received advanced training specifically geared towards law enforcement and continues to attend instructor-level courses to train new Cadets and law enforcement professionals across the state of Ohio. Lori is deeply involved with community engagement through a partnership with the Warren Family Mission and participates in volunteer initiatives with the Police Academy Cadets. Lori has been instrumental in the creation of the Youth Police Academy Experience which affords local high school students an opportunity to explore the field of law enforcement. Furthermore, Lori has partnered with fellow colleagues and created the “At Ease” Military and Veteran Resource Center in the Gelbke Library to assist students who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. Lori continues to develop herself professionally and completed the Innovation Initiative Flipping your Classroom in 2023, which resulted in the receipt of the Bronze Teaching Recognition Award. Lori is currently participating in the Belonging Champions program. Lori is currently working on her Ph.D. in Public Administration. Lori has taught the following classes: Police Role, Women in Crime and Justice, Youth and the Justice System, Terrorism and Counterterrorism, Police and Community, and Interpersonal and Professional Skills for Public Safety Professionals. Lori is married to Travis Bare and has three children – Travis Jr., Emily, and Jackson.
