Gift Establishes New Scholarship Endowment for Mahoning Valley Students

A new scholarship endowment for Mahoning Valley students has been created from a $60,000 gift from CSC Industries Foundation.

The Foundation was originally established to provide college and university educational assistance to dependents of employees or retirees from CSC Industries and Copperweld Steel Company.

Copperweld was founded in 1915 in Rankin, PA and later opened a factory in Warren, Ohio in 1939. From 1988 to 1999, the foundation awarded approximately 60 scholarships of $1000 each. In 1993, CSC Industries and Copperweld Steel Company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In 1995, CSC Limited acquired the assets, emerged from bankruptcy, but later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2001 and then Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation. CSC Industries Foundation was unaffected by the bankruptcies but has been dormant since 2001.

In 2019, the board of trustees decided to dissolve the foundation and equally disperse the fund to 91²Ö¿â and Youngstown State University. The funds will be utilized to support student scholarships and recognize CSC’s long-standing support for education in the Mahoning Valley.
