How does the 91ֿ community find out what events are happening on campus? Where do you go to find your weekend plans?
"Where On the Web?" is an ongoing series that introduces possibly unfamiliar pages and features on the 91ֿ website that students, faculty and staff should know about. One informative section of the website is the Events Calendar page.
“Our calendar page is actually an event hub that provides access to the academic calendar, holidays, general events and student-specific events,” said Lin Danes, director of Web Services and Interactive Media.
The calendar can be used by anyone and features events from all eight 91ֿ campuses. It can be accessed on the web at www.kent.edu/calendars or through the KSU Mobile App.
Users can use filters to search for events with categories such as interests, campus departments and audience. Interests include options such as academic support, arts, diversity and recreation. Audiences show specific groups such as students, faculty or alumni.
Some events the calendar has recently featured include:
-
Video Editing with Adobe Premier Rush
-
Introduction to Climbing Clinic
-
91ֿ Percussion Ensemble Concert
-
LIVE VIRTUAL: Dealing with Difficult Behaviors (Beyond Compliance training for faculty and staff)
-
Student Employee Appreciation Week
-
May 4 Commemoration
-
Commencement
“We needed a centralized location to promote these diverse events to the university community and the downtown community,” Danes said.
Campus departments and registered student organizations can display their events through the “Submit an Event” button on the page. The event will be posted on the calendar once it is reviewed by University Events and Protocol.
“The Events Calendar is a useful tool to bring awareness to folks as to what’s happening on campus, but it’s also a tool to help with planning for current students, faculty and staff,” said Lashonda Taylor, assistant vice president of University Events and Special Projects. “It’s nice to have a place of reference to see what else is going on.”
Students, faculty and staff can use the calendar to schedule vacations during breaks. Student groups are able to make sure their events don’t conflict with other events, such as those set up by students or 91ֿ.
University Events and the University Communications and Marketing Department (UCM) are working together to constantly improve the calendar. The UCM Web Team curates information that appears on calendars. University Events works to make the webpage more user friendly.
“We really do want students, faculty and staff to use the calendar,” Taylor said. “It’s just a helpful way to stay in the know as to what’s happening on campus.”
