Shawn Powell Featured at Cleveland’s New Abattoir Gallery and in Vanity Fair Magazine

91ֿ Assistant Professor of Painting  is being featured in a two-person show at Cleveland’s new . His paintings are being shown alongside fellow Ohio artist Lauren Yeager’s photography, sculpture and installations. The exhibition from July 25 through Sept. 5, 2020. The show will have two opening reception days: July 31 and Aug. 1, 2020. The opening days will be by reservation through Eventbrite and then the show will be open during gallery hours (Thursday-Saturday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m.) or by appointment.

The artists’ work focuses on overlooked quotidian objects in their work, each adopting a philosophical tangent consistent with their commentary and interests. A sly sense of humor is common ground found in both bodies of work. This is the gallery’s second exhibition after their inaugural exhibition featuring 91ֿ alumna Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson and New York-based artist Kaveri Raina, which closes on July 25. The gallery, which , is the brainchild of Lisa Kurzner and Rose Burlingham, two veteran independent, Cleveland-based curators. 

One of Powell's paintings was featured in this August.
