Future Flash Days, when admitted students and their families visit the Kent Campus, enjoyed another successful year for 2023. Nearly 1,300 students from 24 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, experienced what it is like to be a Golden Flash.
Taking place over six Fridays in February and March, this year’s Future Flash Days saw a 10% increase in attendance compared to last year.
Admitted students came from near and far. Jordan Dougan, who plans to be an applied engineering and technology management major, traveled from Sitka, Alaska, to attend his Future Flash Day.
“I met a graduate of 91ֿ up in Alaska, and he just told me all about Kent,” Dougan said. “I visited last fall, and I was just super excited by it.”
Kiden Housel traveled from Jefferson, Ohio, to attend her future Flash Day.
“I love the atmosphere here; the vibe is very chill but also people are very dedicated here,” said Housel, who plans to major in American Sign Language and English interpreting. “There are a lot of opportunities here that I’m excited to partake in.”
During Future Flash Day, admitted students spend the day with members of the 91ֿ community engaging in a number of events, including exploring their academic program with their future professors and staff, learning about 91ֿ’s award-winning student support services while exploring the university’s resource fair, visiting model residence hall rooms, learning more about financial aid, touring the beautiful Kent Campus and meeting students in their major.
Another highlight of Future Flash Day is the Blue and Gold Signing Day Experience, when an admitted student signs their commitment letter, walks the blue carpet and grabs their exclusive 91ֿ merchandise.
“My favorite part was signing,” said Jayana Ricks of Springfield, Ohio, who plans to major in exercise science. “I was very excited to finally sign and actually commit to 91ֿ because I really like it here.”
Sam Leepson of South Orange, New Jersey, who plans to be a fashion design major, said, “I liked exploring my major and meeting people who are going to be in my program.”
For Canna Stephens of Port Clinton, Ohio, who plans to major in American Sign Language, meeting her roommate, Kenzi Riley of Alliance, Ohio, for the first time was her favorite part of Future Flash Day.
“We got to see who we’re going to be with in our majors, and it’s going to be a super fun experience for all of us,” Stephens said.
“My favorite part of Future Flash Day is really getting to see everything and talk with so many helpful people on staff,” said Angelo Digiacomo of Warren, Ohio.
Students are encouraged to confirm by May 1, National College Decision Day, if they plan to attend 91ֿ this fall.
