Quick Tip: Student Accommodations and Canvas

POSTED: Sep. 21, 2022

The words accessibility and accommodations are often used when discussing how to make online content available to every person in the class. You may want to file this information away for future reference since students can request SAS accommodations anytime during the semester.

The RCID Team wants to help you proactively ensure equal access to your content for all learners. If you haven’t yet, check out the Canvas Accommodations page for information on the types of accommodations that can be requested and how to handle them, and other important faculty resources.

Two of the most common accommodations the RCID team encounters are:

  • Extending test time for a student (Instructions: or )
  • Assigning different availability/due date or time for a student (Instructions: )
Important Tip: When adding a different day or time for a student, make sure to click the +Add button and then enter the student’s name to create a second set of parameters; do not replace “Everyone†with their name unless you wish to unassign it to the rest of the class.
