Payton Schramski

  • Interior Design Major
  • Sophomore
  • Operations Supervisor and Operations Lead of Safety and Risk Management

Payton Schramski works as Operations Supervisor and Operations Lead of Safety and Risk Management. Payton said her love of gymnastics drew her to work at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC). Payton said she heard about work opportunities at the SRWC over Handshake and was interested in the environment. “I was a gymnast for 13 years, so the gym environment is very familiar to me. But I am retired from gymnastics, so I wanted something outside of my major so I could still exercise a different side of my brain.” Payton said. “I had heard very good things on Handshake and on Instagram pages about the environment at the SRWC , so when I was a freshman, that's where I wanted to start and I loved it and I’m still here.”

Payton rose to a leadership position within RecWell . When asked about plans for working, she said she had not anticipated moving up so fast, but that it just happened. “At first, no. I definitely thought I would move up into a leadership role later in my undergraduate career. I'm only a sophomore and I'm a Lead Supervisor, which is an amazing opportunity and I'm so thankful for it, but I didn't think it would happen so fast.” She said, “It's been a really amazing opportunity and something that I now get to work through until my senior year, which is early.”

Payton is an Interior Design major. She said she thinks working at the SRWC can still further her career goals, even if it may not be directly related to her major. “My student employment experience definitely doesn't directly correlate or translate to the actual work I'll be doing, but the soft skills that I've developed and the interpersonal skills I've developed will. Being able to have strong customer service skills and being able to talk to people and manage a team on shift has been something that I think will translate very well to my future.”

Payton said she didn’t only choose to work at SRWC for the work experience, but also the community and environment working there is what has pushed her to keep building on herself. “I love working at the SRWC . It is a lively place with a lot going on and it keeps me on my toes and I love the people I work with. And yeah, I look forward to coming here and I look forward to helping out everywhere I can.” Payton said.
