Healthy Aging

Every person should have the opportunity to live a long and healthy life. Healthy aging is about creating the environments and opportunities that enable people to be and do what they value throughout their lives. Research has identified to maintain our health and functioning as we get older. Adopting healthy habits and behaviors like improving your diet and levels of physical activity, staying social and involved in your community, using preventive health services, and managing chronic conditions can contribute to a productive and meaningful life.

In addition, don’t forget to register for on September 12, and full-time Kent campus employees can visit the to register for onsite health coaching on September 14. Telephonic/virtual coaching is available year-round.

The Changing Culture of Aging in America

The traditional image of aging in this country, as evidenced by mass media, is one of decline and loss. Join Julia Ellifritt, LISW-S, for a webinar which will challenge perceptions and introduce interventions to combat stereotypes as 80 becomes the new 60. Julia will list and define the three plagues of aging and identify interventions to address them.

Financial Wellness: Social Security and Your Retirement

This webinar, presented by Sean Deasy, VALIC Senior Financial Advisor, will discuss the role of Social Security in retirement planning and the effect of the Windfall Elimination and Government Offset Provision as it relates to OPERS/STRS. Sean will cover the costs associated with retirement and help attendees calculate the amount of income they will need and how social security fits in to their overall retirement income plan.

  • Know the facts behind the screening exams you and your loved ones may need; and
  • Understand ways you can prevent cancer through positive daily habits.

 

Be Well Solutions Social Media Slowdown Challenge
September 19 - October 17

This challenge is designed to help participants evaluate their social media usage and how it relates to their day-to-day stress levels. Participants are encouraged to limit their social media screen time and track details about their stress levels and stress management practices each day of the challenge. Tracking is completed via the , so this challenge is open to full-time, benefits-eligible employees only.
