American Heart Association Recognizes Susan Weber for “Living Well”
In 2004, Go Red for Women was born as a campaign to raise awareness among women about their greatest health threat – heart disease. Today, it is a movement – one that not only brings thousands of women together in an effort to eradicate heart disease and stroke globally, but also to encourage all women to make a commitment to stand together with Go Red and take charge of their own heart health.
Much like the Go Red for Women journey, is the journey of 91ֿ employee Susan Weber. Susan decided at the age of 53 that she didn’t want her husband and three sons to feel the loss she felt when she lost both of her parents in her 30’s. Her mother suffered from congestive heart failure and diabetes. Knowing she was headed down the wrong path herself, Susan set her mind to make herself and her health a priority. Today, after an 18-month journey, Susan is 80 pounds lighter and has her blood pressure and fasting sugar under control.
On February 14, at the Akron Go Red Luncheon, the cornerstone event for the Go Red movement within communities across the country, Susan was featured as one of three women who have changed their lives by changing their health. In the , you can get a first-hand glimpse into Susan’s life, in and outside of the workplace, and as she partakes in the employee wellness program at 91ֿ, which she attributes for much of her success in supporting her commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.
“We’ve known for some time that Susan would be recognized, as representatives from the AHA/Go Red Committee have been on campus to interview her for the video,” said Kim Hauge, director of Employee Wellness. “Susan is a special woman, very selfless and very brave as she spoke through her pain of losing her parents at such an early age. She wanted to do this because she is hopeful that her story might inspire other women to take small steps that can quite literally save their lives.”
Another way Susan hopes to continue supporting others and paying it forward is through the Employee Wellness Ambassador program at 91ֿ. "We are thrilled to have her as part of our team of ambassadors," said Hauge.
“I know how good it feels to live healthy and well,” said Weber. “I want to encourage others to do the same.”

Amanda Dolan Named National Research Award Winner
91ֿ at Ashtabula Director of Enrollment Management and Student Services Amanda Avery Dolan, Ph.D., was recently selected as an Outstanding American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Strategic Enrollment Management Research Award recipient by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. Effie Tsengas Joins Cleveland Arts Prize Board of Trustees
Effie Tsengas, director of communications and marketing for the College of the Arts, has joined the Board of Trustees of The Cleveland Arts Prize.
The nearly 60-year-old organization was established by the Women’s City Club and has provided an ongoing platform for celebrating northeast Ohio’s exceptional arts community by recognizing and rewarding the contributions of individual artists in the visual arts, the performing arts of theatre and dance, and literature.
"I've held this organization in such high esteem for so long,” said Tsengas. “It's an honor to serve on the Board."
Business Leadership Training Extended to Twinsburg Community
Business Leadership Training (BLT) is a new guest speaker series and a dynamic networking opportunity for the Twinsburg community. This outreach program is organized through a partnership between the 91ֿ Twinsburg Academic Center and the Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce.
Free and open to all local business representatives, BLT also helps to familiarize the public with the recent name change of this 91ֿ campus location (formerly the Regional Academic Center), which now identifies itself with the City of Twinsburg. Learn more.
Faculty/Staff Group Exercise and Free Fridays Continue
Faculty/Staff Group Exercise Classes are provided at no cost to KSU employees and are sponsored by Employee Wellness and the Department of Recreational Services. A membership is not required to attend, but advance registration is necessary, and space is limited for each session.
Below is a summary of our faculty/staff group exercise classes offered each week including the times and a brief description:
- Mondays - Basic Strength (12:15—1 p.m.). This class will present a variety of basic resistance exercises to learn proper form and technique.
- Tuesdays - Lunchtime Yoga (12:15 – 1 p.m.) A great way to rejuvenate midday. All fitness levels are welcome and participants are requested to bring their own yoga mat.
- Wednesdays - Compound Strength (12:15 – 1 p.m.) This class takes Basic Strength to the next level and puts those individual resistance exercises together to form compound movements. Work the entire body at once to increase caloric burn, improve your balance and coordination, and increase your strength.
- Thursday - Spin (12:15 – 1 p.m.) An indoor stationary cycling class that focuses on improving your cardiovascular and muscular fitness through biking on simulated flat roads, hills and jumps.
As noted, registration is required for the above group exercise classes and may be accessed through our digital calendar and scrolling to the date and class desired.
Through this partnership, all full- and part-time faculty and staff can also take advantage of FREE FRIDAYS at the Rec. Faculty and staff can enjoy all the amenities of the SRWC, including free access to Group X Classes each Friday. A valid FLASHcard is required for entry. You do not need to register to participate in Free Friday’s classes.
Leave Reporting Information for Faculty and Administrative Staff
Faculty and Administrative staff are responsible for accurately reporting the number of leave hours (vacation, sick and personal) taken and submitting those hours for approval in a timely manner. Leave is to be reported by the employee through the Banner Leave Reporting channel in Flashline. If an employee has taken previous leave time and not reported it, time should be submitted for approval immediately.
Faculty and administrative staff should record and save leave time as it is taken. Leave time should then be submitted for supervisor approval at the end of the pay period (i.e., the first and sixteenth of the month). Supervisors of faculty and administrative staff are responsible for making sure that employees submit all leave time that is taken. Supervisors do not have the authority to "give someone the day off" without reporting it as leave.
Pay periods are available in the Flashline Banner Leave reporting channel for employees for one month following the beginning of the pay period. Supervisors have one month following the end of a pay period to approve the submitted reports.

New to campus dining? Try out all the tasty and healthy food choices within the dining halls with the Employee 10 Block introductory meal plan for $85 each semester. Get 10 meal swipes at Eastway Fresh Food Company, The Market or Prentice Café (Swipes will be loaded onto your Flashcard. Unused swipes will expire at the end of the semester.)
Faculty and staff members can now sign up for a meal plan using payroll deduction. Sign up in Flashline, Click Employee on the left margin, scroll down and click Additional Employee Resources. See Employee Meal Plan in the far right column and complete the form.
