When LeBron James sank a 21-foot turnaround jumper in the third quarter of the Lakers vs. Thunder Game Tuesday night, he reached a milestone that made students in 91²Ö¿â's I Promise Scholars Program proud. James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's NBA scoring record.
In 2020, 91²Ö¿â provided the opportunity for a college education to all eligible students in the LeBron James Family Foundation's (LJFF) oldest I Promise Network class by guaranteeing four years of tuition and one year of room and meal plan.
The tuition program was the culmination of an existing partnership between 91²Ö¿â and the LJFF in which I PROMISE students attend summer enrichment college preparation programs at the university; those existing programs have continued.
The I Promise Scholars witnessed through James' milestone how hard work and perseverance pay off. Three of the scholars, Akron residents Daysi Alvarado-Sandoval, Don'Marie Reid and Corina Weems-Porter, took time out of their busy schedules at 91²Ö¿â to let James know just how much they admire his accomplishment.
