The numbers compiled from coroners statewide are staggering: 4,149 Ohioans died from unintentional overdoses last year, from drugs including heroine and fentanyl, and the fatalities are expected to be even higher by the end of 2017.
To call attention to the problem, a 91²Ö¿â student has turned the epidemic into a theatrical performance. Emelia Sherin, a public relations major in 91²Ö¿â’s College of Communication and Information, has written a play “Independent: The Heroin Project.â€
Sherin even turned heroin into one of the main characters who plays the role of a temptress.
“Independent: The Heroin Project†was performed at the Akron Civic Theater on August 4 and 5.
The New York Times interviewed Sherin about her motivation to write and produce the performance.
