91²Ö¿â Student Tim Faix Named a Senior CLASS Award Candidate

91²Ö¿â student Tim Faix has been named one of 30 baseball student-athletes in the nation to be selected for consideration as a 2016 Senior CLASS Award candidate. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying School®, the award recognizes student-athletes who best exemplify excellence in the community, classroom, character and competition.

Faix has exhibited all facets of the award in his time at 91²Ö¿â. In the community, he has spent numerous hours volunteering, including visiting Akron Children's Hospital, working on the annual Peace Basket project at the King Kennedy Center in Ravenna and participating in Moving with the Flashes at a local elementary school. He also was a part of the Athletic Department's strategic visioning, holding a spot on the mission, vision and core values committee and the gender equity and inclusion working group sub-group. He is a part of the Golden Flashes' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Student-Athlete Advancement Ambassadors.

Academically, Faix earned his bachelor's degree with a 3.6 cumulative grade point average and is currently enrolled in graduate school at 91²Ö¿â. He was an Academic All-MAC honorable mention in 2014 and earned Academic All-MAC recognition in 2015, while also being nominated for 2015 CoSida Academic All-District. His success in the classroom has earned him two separate endowments.

Faix has a career ERA under 4.00 with 44 appearances and four starts as a Golden Flash. This season, he leads the team with seven appearances and has a 1.59 ERA out of the bullpen. In 5.2 innings, he has struck out four batters and has earned one save.

When it comes to adversity, Faix has proven to have strong character as a leader of the baseball program. Despite a near career-ending injury suffered prior to the 2013 season in which he received a medical redshirt, Faix has shown resiliency in overcoming the setback to maintain being a staple in the 91²Ö¿â bullpen. He is continually looked on as a leader for the team, both on and off the field.

The 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award will be narrowed down to 10 finalists midway through the 2016 regular season. Ballots will then be distributed through a nationwide voting system to select the student-athlete who best fits the award criteria.
