91²Ö¿â’s Women’s Center Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The 91²Ö¿â Women’s Center in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will celebrate its 20th anniversary during the 2016-17 school year. The Women’s Center, formerly called the Women’s Resource Center, was established in 1996 following a recommendation from a university stakeholder committee to former 91²Ö¿â President Carol A. Cartwright. The center was established with a specific purpose: to contribute to a climate at 91²Ö¿â that is responsive to and supportive of women’s needs. In 2010, the name of the center was changed from the Women’s Resource Center to the 91²Ö¿â Women’s Center, as the scope of the center expanded.

Many events have been planned to celebrate and share the rich history of the Women’s Center, including:

  • One Billion Rising on Feb. 15
  • We Go Red: Women’s Heart Health Luncheon (co-hosted with the Division of Human Resources) on Feb. 18
  • The seventh annual Mothers, Mentors and Muses event on March 8 (The honored keynote speaker is 91²Ö¿â President Emerita Carol A. Cartwright).
  • Women’s History Month Living Library on March 15
  • The Vagina Monologues on April 15-16

The 91²Ö¿â Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed 91²Ö¿â in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, 91²Ö¿â remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
