Full Description

The Master of Education degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling features an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on the inclusion of persons with disabilities into the life of the community. Graduates are employed in vocational rehabilitation settings, mental health and developmental disabilities agencies, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, public and private hospitals, comprehensive rehabilitation centers, correctional facilities, community-based programs, private industry, proprietary rehabilitation and student disability services in higher education.

The program requires two years of study, culminating in a semester-long internship under the field supervision of a certified clinical rehabilitation counselor. Faculty advise students in the development of a curriculum plan that includes required core, foundational and elective courses. Early and continued exposure to rehabilitation practice is provided as students progress through the program.

THE CLINICAL REHABILITATION COUNSELING PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program at 91²Ö¿â is to prepare research-informed, ethically sound, and multiculturally responsive Certified Rehabilitation Counselors and Licensed Professional Counselors in a diverse and ever-changing society. We seek to a deliver the high-quality education required by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) and to prepare students/graduates to meet the requirements of the Commission on rehabilitation Counselor Certification () to become Certified Rehabilitations Counselors and the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board () to become Licensed Professional Counselors.   

THE CLINICAL REHABILITATION COUNSELING PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program at 91²Ö¿â are to prepare students/graduates to:

  • engage in extensive practica experiences in an on-site and off-site experiences that utilize multiple levels of supervision;
  • engage in a minimum of three semesters of supervised clinical experiences designed to effectively work with clients from a multicultural and pluralistic society;
  • demonstrate knowledge in the psychosocial, occupational, and medical aspects of disability; vocational evaluations; job analyses; labor market surveys; career development and related assessments; case management skills; supply- and demand-side job placement and development; and professional orientation and ethical practice;
  • demonstrate knowledge in assessment, group work, career development, helping relationships human growth and development, social and cultural diversity, research, and program evaluation;
  • meet the academic components required by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification to be eligible to sit for the current certification assessments;
  • meet the academic components required by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board to be eligible to sit for the current licensure assessments;
  • understand and apply assessments related to Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling;
  • understand legal and ethical standards and practice in a legal and ethical manner (KPI 1);
