91ֿ’s New Architecture Building Set to Open for First Day of Class

Final touches are underway on the new Center for Architecture and Environmental Design, just in time, and on schedule, for the start of classes. The 117,000 square foot building will bring all the programs in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design under one roof.

The new facility is designed and located to be a physical statement of the strengthened relationship between the city of Kent and the university. The building is placed along the Lefton Esplanade, the primary connection between the two entities, engaging not only design students but the campus and city as a whole. Approaching from the west, it will be the first impression of the university, a culmination of planning and relationships.

New York-based architecture firm designed the building. Steven Litt from The Plain Dealer recently took a tour and described the facility as “a dazzler.” Read more on .

The new Center for Architecture and Environmental Design will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016.  Attendees are asked to in advance.
