Duties

1. The Council draws upon the expertise of its faculty members to provide advice and recommendations to the ASC director regarding:

  • academic support needs at 91²Ö¿â.

  • collaborations with faculty, inside and outside of the classroom.

  • new ASC programs and initiatives.

  • identification and elimination of barriers to student academic success.

2. The Council reviews and provides feedback on the ASC’s annual assessment and evaluation reports.

3. Council faculty members share the mission and work of the ASC with colleagues through meetings in their academic units and other opportunities as appropriate. Council faculty members advocate for ASC collaborations across campus.

4. The Council may invite experts to join meetings or submit information to the council in review of specific concerns or proposals.

Meetings

The Council meets typically meets two-hour meetings twice per academic year (not to be scheduled during Summer terms), but may meet more frequently as needed.  ASC staff are responsible for the coordination and scheduling of the regularly scheduled meetings and to provide support for other administrative functions with advanced notice.

Membership

Council membership consists of 2-4 full-time faculty members, including at least one faculty member each from Tenure- and Nontenure-tracks. Faculty who have held their full-time position for four or more consecutive semesters and who typically teach at least one course each semester at Kent Campus are eligible for Council membership.

The ASC considers nominations for membership from current Council members and University administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Faculty may self-nominate. Candidates are required to submit a curriculum vitae and any other materials they wish to be considered for review in the selection process. Preferred qualifications include documented commitment to student success service and initiatives, including in one’s own course and/or program. Member selection is made by majority vote of ASC professional staff members and supervising assistant dean.

Council appointments are voluntary and include a service term of two academic years. Membership may continue for three consecutive terms.
