Abbie Morneault graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Mathematics. Morneault teaches at Dayton Early College Academy serving under-represented and low-income families and providing students with unique opportunities to prepare for college.
When Abbie is not working at the academy, she volunteers with Determined to Develop (D2D), a non-profit organization based in Malawi, Africa that provides healthcare, education and community resources to impoverished children and their families. She serves as director on the board. In addition, she is the chair of the fundraising committee and plans annual events to support the feeding of 3,000 children, education sponsorship of over 200 high school students and many other social projects in the northern region of Malawi including areas involving women’s empowerment, food and nutrition, orphan care and support, environment and healthcare.
Her involvement with D2D began during her time at 91²Ö¿â. She spent two weeks in Malawi in the summer of 2011. After graduating, Morneault returned to Malawi to teach high school level math to students at the Khawawa Secondary School for two years.
During her time at 91²Ö¿â, Morneault was a resident assistant, Kent Student Ambassador, co-chair for the Center for Student Involvement and also served on the selection committee for the Distinguished and Outstanding Teacher Awards.
